by Mike Mignola and Dave Stewart
Mind officially and utterly blown. Mike Mignola takes a corner of the Mignolaverse, tucking it nicely into Hellboy In Hell. For those not keeping up on other books from this awesome universe, such as like B.P.R.D, Lobster Johnson, and Witchfinder, you really need to get on it! Combined with the upcoming Abe Sapien title, and on top of the other Abe series already in trade paperback format, getting caught up with Hellboy requires but a touch of simple dedication, and you too can have your mind blown with this issue. There’s no point in resisting, the testimonial evidence is overwhelming on RCB, and dammit, evidence will continue to be accumulated until you’ve been bludgeoned about the head and realize what you’re missing!
Now getting back to Hellboy in Hell #4, this is the last monthly installment of Hellboy until a to be determined date. After this run of four, we’re going to get sporadic releases of a few issues whenever Mignola decides to bestow more issues unto his hungry fans. It’s unfortunate, but if the next issues are cut from the same magnificent cloth as the previous four issues are, whenever they come out we’re in for a treat. This is truly the story that Mike Mignola has been working towards for years, and he’s telling it 100% his way. This is the crown jewel in the Hellboy crown.
Once again, Mike Mignola let’s his style and artistic skills fly. He holds nothing back and it shows. Each simplistic panel oozes Mignola’s signature style and is arguably some of his best work to date. Without the confining structure of the, “real world,” he really lets go and draws exactly what and how he wants. His art speaks for itself. Dave Stewart, once again, puts his signature bow on the amazing package that is Hellboy in Hell. The artistic duo of Mignola and Stewart has grown to be one of the primer groups in all of comics, and it’s an absolute treat to see them together again.
These four issues, hopefully with the addition of a whack of sketch book goodies, are going to make an excellent trade from Dark Horse. If you still haven’t read Hellboy in Hell, you will have another chance to come out when the trade comes out. Until then, you have a ton of stuff from the Mignolaverse to catch up on. Get to it!
