by Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson
Want to know something I didn’t think I’d see? A Masks and Mobsters Christmas Special. How could they pull something like that off? How do you mingle wise guys, superheroes and Christmas? Well, Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson are better men than I because they’ve found a way.
We all know the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Doesn’t matter if you don’t celebrate Christmas or believe in something different; everybody knows it. It’s a classic. Joshua Williamson has taken said classic, dropped in a couple of mobsters and made it work beautifully. Two wise guys are sent out, by their boss, to kill Scrooge on Christmas Eve but little do they know that Scrooge’s night is already booked up. It’s a nice little “outside the box” spin on a classic that, in truth, has been done to death.
As usual, Mike Henderson does some fantastic art for this little 10-page, digital holiday special. There’s really no complaint to be had. It was even nice to see a few splashes of color in this story–normally, for those that might not be reading it, it’s done is nothing but black and white. It really looked like Mike Henderson just had fun with this issue.
I say this all the time, but for something like this .99 cents is more than worth it. It’s a quick, fun read that’s perfect to break up some of the more serious comics that you might be reading. Sit down, because you don’t have to go out for this, and buy this off of the fantastic ComiXology app and enjoy. It’s that simple.
