All the staff at RCB want to thank and congratulate the artists involved. This Green Arrow challenge was really fun, and definitely got some really cool sketches. That being said, I’m sure you guys want to get to the winners! So, first off let’s talk public vote, shall we?

The run away winner, as voted by the RCB Community is… Entry J!

Congrats on the win, and the very cool sketch!

Next up, we have the words from our very special guest judge, Mr. Andrea Sorrentino, pro DC artist for books like I, Vampire and the current Green Arrow run with Jeff Lemire:

First of all, I’d like to congratulate everybody. Each and every one of you has shown a great passion for your art and I truly admire the amount of effort put into each submission. No matter the result of this Sketch Challenge, I definitely want to encourage all of you to continue to improve your work and to never stop chasing your dream!

With that out of the way, I’d like to acknowledge the quality of several submissions. They are all impressive in their own unique way. There is a diverse range of both strong and weak points that can be found in the composition of the work and in the coloring and the drawing itself (anatomy and backgrounds.) Taking these aspects into account and after much deliberation – I’ve decided on who I feel has produced my favorite piece of art for this sketch challenge.

And the winner is… Entry I.

The striking nature of the composition, the shot taken from below and the dramatic feel really pushes it ahead of its competitors. However, my only little complaint about this entry is with it’s coloring.  While I enjoy the dark blue sky (because it adds to the drama) I feel like the figure in the foreground doesn’t stick out quite enough. Apart from this minor critique, the pencil work alone makes this entry a lock for first place!

Now let’s take a look at our runners-up.

Entry B – I love the shades on the figure

Entry E – I thoroughly enjoy the colors and the way the figure emerges from the background aiming directly at us.
Entry J – The clean lines and use of color makes this a clear image to read. Plus, the ReadComicBooks voters really seemed to appreciate this entry too!

Once again I’d like to congratulate everybody for participating and I wish all of you the best of luck in chasing after your dreams!

So awesome. We can’t thank Mr. Sorrentino enough. And that, folks, is it for this Sketch Challenge! Thanks to everybody involved and we’ll see you for the next one!

Here was your challenge:

We’re looking for a New 52 version of Green Arrow. Your art can be done in black and white–inking, but colored art is preferred. However, if you do not have access to it then a high res scan of your pencils will have to do–and all entries are due in 2 weeks time which puts us at a deadline of Wednesday February 20th, 2013. Why the long deadline, you ask? Well, we want to give you guys the ample time to put the right amount of effort into having your art judged by Andrea Sorrentino!
